Fresh from an impressive run as the opening act for Chris Brown’s “Under The Influence” Tour in Europe and a successful stint as the DJ for the Red Carpet Live! pre-show event at this year’s BET Awards, Jae Murphy has even more reason to celebrate. He’s announced his residency at Deluxx Fluxx in NYC and marks the occasion with the release of the single “Rich Black Poor Black,” meticulously crafted by the Grammy-nominated production duo, Mike & Keys.

“Rich Black Poor Black” draws inspiration from Luke Lawal’s financial literacy book of the same name, a close associate and friend of Jae Murphy. This track serves as the follow-up to Jae’s empowering anthem, “Hood Girl Magic,” and features additional instrumentation by MyGuyMars, co-founder of 1500 or Nothin, and background vocals by Nefertitti Avani.
In an exclusive statement provided to Medium Creative Agency, the multi-talented artist shares the motivation behind this latest release:
“I wanted to create a soundtrack that accurately captures the perspectives many minorities have regarding their finances. I also wanted to provide a blueprint for saving money with the ultimate goal of building wealth. While crafting this record, I had to unlearn certain aspects of my own financial perspective and adapt to the lyrical creativity that allowed me to articulate these ideas. Let’s continue to share the right kind of financial information within communities of color and reshape the course of history successfully.”
